What is Corporate India Doing to Ensure Women Leadership Development at All Levels

Discover Corporate India’s Initiatives for Women Leadership Development

The world is at the cusp of revolutionary changes in several aspects – changes that will propel the future of women in the workforce, and it’s time to fabricate new archetypes of power and leadership to pave the way for women to enter/re-enter the workforce and reach the pinnacle of success.

AccelHERate 2021 on March 5 — India’s biggest (virtual) B2B conference for companies — brought together thought leaders to share their most innovative practices to foster higher participation of women at leadership levels within their organisations, such as regular interactions for women with the management and board teams, leadership training programs and formal women’s networks.

At the table were:

  • Prateek Mehrotra, Director – Systems Engineering - Verizon Data Services India
  • Renuka Ganesh, General Manager, HRD - Biocon
  • Sharmila Khan, Director-Country HRBP - Micron Technology Operations India LLP
  • Asha Ahuja, Managing Director, Accenture Advanced Technology Centers in India, Accenture Solutions
  • Shishir Kumar, Head Rewards & Development, Airbus Group India

#AccelHERate2021 showcased the TOP5 MOST INNOVATIVE PRACTICES - WOMEN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Key highlights:

  • Prateek Mehrotra covered the journey of Verizon towards becoming the powerhouse of women's leadership development by making diversity as its strong fabric of its cultural DNA. “Imagine if we lose the opportunity to tap 50% of the talent market, if we don’t focus on gender diversity.”

  • Renuka Ganesh stressed that the strength of the organisation lies in the diversity of their workforce.  It helps in bringing out novel products and solutions to cater to the different development needs of the team,  including having specific initiatives aimed at nurturing women’s skills and talents.

  • Sharmila Khan pointed out rightly that a commitment to D&I is possible only when the approach is top-to-bottom. 2020 saw several initiatives that were rolled out including a report on D&I and equality -- which have set the tone for driving goals in 2021.

  • Asha Ahuja highlighted the fact that  with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, leadership development starts at the very top of the value chain, where a collaboration between various functions to drive initiatives for women in leadership is ensured. Making sure that these initiatives and programs are customised for women in different geographies also ensures maximum impact.

  • Shishir Kumar spoke about the role of women in the organisation, regardless of which part of the world they were. “They are taking on roles that are predominantly male dominated and excelling in them”, he added.
