Swim Teacher Training: 2 day course + Practical Training + Online Assessment
The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water SafetyTM course will give you the essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety, discussing concepts of aquatic safety, survival and rescue skills, water familiarization, buoyancy and mobility, efficient stroke development and theory related to how people learn, methodologies of becoming an effective teacher and planning, reviewing and delivering a lesson plan.
The TSW course is typically conducted over 16-20 hours and delivery modes of the training include:
- Classroom training- discussing theory & methods of instruction, lesson planning
- Practical training- In water engagement, supervised and assisted by teaching assistants
The course will be presented by an AUSTWSIM Presenter (a licensed teacher showing competencies to present and deliver the AUSTSWIM Courses).
Outline
Pre-requisites
Candidates are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability.
Candidates are also required to obtain an approved Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Assessment
To gain the license, the following assessment components must be satisfactorily completed within 12 months of the course commencement date.
- Theory assessment.
- Demonstrate competence in an aquatic sequence.
- Demonstration of skills for teaching purposes.
- Demonstrate competence in water safety techniques.
- Lesson plans.
- Practical teaching assessment.
- Show evidence of holding a current cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) award. Certification
Outcomes
Successful candidates will receive a:
- AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water SafetyTM accreditation and be issued with the AUSTSWIM Teacher LicenseTM (valid for 3 years)
