Duties and Responsibilities

• Document and communicate results with cross functional counterparts.

• Interface in cross functional teams to ensure the design meets all firmware, diagnostic and system level requirements.

• Participate in architecture definition, design reviews, requirements generation of SSD products.

• Design and Architect SSD platforms with custom SSD Controllers, NAND and DRAM for cost sensitive SSD products.

• Design and Architect power systems targeted for cost sensitive SSD products.

• Simulate and analyze design proposals, review results and provide recommendations on optimal design practices to other design engineers.

• Design with schematic capture and design constraints utilizing Cadence PCB design tools.

• Run simulations of all power systems utilizing SPICE simulation tools and models.

• Evaluation of Worst-case analysis, simulations and de-rating.

• Simulate and analyze design proposals, review results and provide recommendations on optimal design practices to other design engineers.

• Design with schematic capture and design constraints utilizing Cadence PCB design tools.

• Run simulations of all power systems utilizing SPICE simulation tools and models.

• Evaluation of Worst-case analysis, simulations and de-rating.

• Design with understanding of signal integrity behavior of high-speed interfaces.

• PCB back-end process: defining stack-up and via technologies, part placement, setting design constraints, signal integrity and power integrity analysis

• Experienced in designing hardware for large scale manufacture, including DFx and low-cost considerations

• Define test plans for verification of Power Management ICs and power systems.

• Define test equipment and procedures required to complete hardware verification of SSD and focused Power Management IC testing.

• Perform basic Signal and power integrity measurements

• Perform hands on power system and power integrity testing using procedures and test equipment.

• Perform margin-based testing with focus on Voltage / Temp / Process and test to fail conditions.

• Perform temperature-based testing within chambers and developing scripts and automation to improve efficiency.

• Interface with cross functional teams to ensure the PMIC and PCB design meets all requirements. (Diagnostic Firmware, system level, procurement supply chain and manufacturing).

• Works proactively with cross functional team members during design, verification as well as on RMAs

• In addition to design, a successful Engineer will mentor and provide technical guidance to other hardware team members

• Successful Engineer will modify existing and develop new test procedures to improve test coverage

Critical Skills

• Self-motivated. Desire to take on challenges. Result-driven and details oriented.

• Able to lead an SSD Hardware project with a team to completion.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must.

• Strong analog experience at the board level for power system design.

• Strong in transmission line fundamentals. Understand the fundamentals of time-domain vs. frequency-domain.

• Strong In-depth knowledge in circuit designs, as well as semiconductor design.

• Strong PCB design experience on high speed signals routing guideline and review, power copper routing and review, design for EMI/ESD protection.

• Design for signal integrity, including SerDes, power and interconnect.

• Develops solutions to complex technical problems, which require ingenuity and creativity.

• Strong analog design using simulation e.g. SPICE (or equivalent).

• Strong practical experience with design tools: Cadence, Allegro, Sigrity, Allegro Power-Aware SI, Mentor Graphics HyperLynx

• Practical lab SI analysis experience using: High-bandwidth measurements (20-35GHz)

• PCIe Compliance equipment

• Strong understanding of how P/V/T and proper margining are used for design verification.

• Experience with script (e.g. Python) development for automated testing of SSD or equivalent hardware

• Practical Lab experience with using soldering station and microscope.

Qualification Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering required; MS in Electrical Engineering is preferred

• 10+ years of relevant design experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication
