Q. Is this a women-only challenge?

A. Absolutely! Only women can participate in this challenge. We know that women can and will come up with brilliant ideas solutions

Q. Is there an entry fee to take part in this challenge?

A. No, participation is free for the HerTech Challenge with Rolls-Royce Emer2gent Alliance Initiative for registered members of HerTech.

Q. Do I need to have any specific qualifications to be a participant for the challenge?

A. The challenge calls for skills in data analysis, forecasting and modelling. Some amount of coding will be required. If you need help with coding, you can network with other members of HerTech who would be interested in joining your team. Or, better yet, get your women coder friends to register for HerTech and dive into the challenge together.

Q. Do we need to have the entire idea fully working?

A. The problem with the COVID crisis is that it is unfolding on a daily basis, so the solution will have to be dynamic as well. The jury will need to see something that they can evaluate to establish the feasibility of the solution. Therefore, try to work towards a logical presentation of the solution and define the problem statement as clearly as you can. The more complete it is, the better we can evaluate.

Q. Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the challenge?

A. We are giving you the flexibility of working offline / online / on the phone /collaboration software with your team members during the challenge. You can submit your solutions anytime within the timeframe given.

Q. Does one have to use data created for the challenge by Emer2gent Alliance partners, or can one use publicly available open-source data?

A. There are no restrictions on the kind of data you can use; after all, all data is useful if you can analyse it to craft a solution. Many Emer2gent Alliance partners have accumulated data and are looking for partners to help them create models. If you don’t have access to data, you can always reach out across the Emer2gent Framework network to collaborate with them. Else, you can choose the data you already have. In each case, the source of the data must be clearly attributed to.

Q. Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built?

A. We will inform the teams once the submissions are done on the next steps. Closer to the event, we will provide you with more clarity on how your models and solutions can be presented. Our jury will ensure that they are also ready to handle such volume and at the same time ensure that it works best for you as well.

Q. Who will own the Intellectual Property Rights to my final product?

A. It is yours. You are the solution creator and you will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in the public domain (open-source) for it to be evaluated by the judges.

Terms & Conditions

1. This challenge is open to all women who register for HerTech

2. Participants can begin from stage 1 or 2

3. Submissions will be accepted only from members of HerTech in single or group efforts

4. Your submission should have the following details:

- Name of the solution

- Description 

- Link to publicly-accessible GitHub/GitLab/Box repository for the jury to evaluate your source code

- Your email address(es) 

- Each team member needs to be registered for HerTech 

- You can only be part of one team and your team can only submit one application
