As a youngster – I have always loved exploring and pushing my boundaries, challenging myself to do things that others said I can’t do. When this international assignment came my way, it opened who...le new world of possibilities; moving to a new country was a whole new experience which was very enriching for us as a family. Everything, everywhere, everyone was new for us. We were thrust into new situations that we had not experienced before -as simple as figuring out what do we do over the weekend to as challenging as driving in snow filled roads and we learned to adapt quickly. Working in an unfamiliar territory previously seemed daunting but now I see that as a blessing. While at work, I took risks of accepting every opportunity that was presented to me to learn something new. I enjoyed being out of my comfort zone and loved the challenge/learning opportunity that it offered. Overall, this experience gave a big boost to my confidence!

As a teacher for 3-4 year old children, during the class, I had shared that chair is for sitting and table is for writing, so we should not be standing/sitting on the table that we use for writing. As... we wrapped up the day, we started sending the kids to their buses as the route numbers were called out; I was feeling tired, so I sat on the table near the door and continued to send the kids. Anushka, quiet & shy girl from my class came next to me waiting as her route was going to be next. With hesitation in her face, she asked me – “ma’am can I ask you a question?” I smiled and said “yes, honey, what is it?” she said “you told us in the afternoon that we should not sit on the table that we use for writing, but you are sitting on it”, I went numb, I quickly tried to recover from that and said ‘sorry, you are right, I should not have sat on it’ and stood up. This left a huge impact on me; I learnt the biggest lesson for life “importance of walking the talk”. To this day, I do not do anything that I ask others not to; and do not ask others to do things that I do not do.
