elt none of my dreams will ever come true. But, my drive to be there for my daughter and not give up on life before I achieve something helped me fight cancer hard. Today, I have survived without any evidence of disease for 24 years.
I travelled around Bangalore in crowded BTS buses, with my bald head, carrying my daughter and soft toys to supply them to stores.
Throughout this toughest phase of her life, my motivation was my daughter. I didn't want to leave my daughter fight it out alone in this society and wanted to live for her. After a 5 year battle with cancer I felt I won it. My struggle with the disease changed me forever.
Inspired by my daughter and wanting to make the world a better place for children like her, I decided to have my school where there would be one child with special needs for every eight students.
I made sure I have raised my daughter with a lot of dignity and attitude even though I was going through cancer, but I see a lack of understanding in people while dealing with special children in society. Through my school my aim will be to sensitise the children and their parents to make them understand that special children are normal children too. They can learn along with the normal children in a regular school set up and do not need a separate school at least in preschool age, unless there is severe physical challenge needing help.
When my school closed down temporarily due to Covid19, I immediately started home school assistance for students and started looking for a job which amused everyone since people were losing jobs due to pandemic. Luckily I was hired by Sutara Learning Foundation as their Senior Curriculum Developer.
Success comes to those who seek it. I will fight for more inclusive society as much as possible.
