Context/Scope:
Diageo’s Business Shared Services aim to leverage the Finance Operating Model by supporting standard processes and systems with effective and efficient shared services across Diageo Finance and other service lines, provided by a trusted outsource partner and by internal services regionally. Business services have an employee base of more than 1,000 FTEs providing various services from back office transactional processing to statutory reporting activities. It also encompasses a significant part of the group’s Financial Planning and Reporting activities and Treasury activities. GDBS is increasingly playing a central role in governance and compliance for Diageo and has been charged by the CFO to be Diageo’s control exemplar accountable for the execution of control in shared services including SOX/ CARM compliance, irrespective of whether delivered from Budapest/ elsewhere or by Diageo/ outsourced providers.

Risk and Controls Specialist role is to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley s404 compliance through global Control Assurance and Risk Management processes. Main responsibilities of the role are:
To lead the Control & Audit compliance agenda within GDBS or Group Functions
To support the Management in delivering best-in-class control environment, increase control and compliance awareness and coordinate / ensure smooth delivery of internal control procedures
Provide management support duringinternal (GAR) and external audit

Accounting Principles
Understands accounting principles, accounting policies and standards and how they can be applied to optimise performance and control risk. Has a strong understanding of more complex areas of accounting.

Makes suggestionson actionsto improve performance.Purpose of RoleThe overall purpose of the role to provide central risk management, control oversight and SOX governance over Diageo’s global business shared services or Group Functions and support the Management in delivering best-in-class control environment, increase control and compliance awareness and coordinate / ensure smooth delivery of internal control procedures.Top AccountabilitiesSupport and hold to account the GDBS, markets and Group Functions to achieve timely and flawless delivery of Control Assurance and Risk Management cycle steps:
  • Delivery of control set content review
  • Delivery of GDBS and LBU/function mapping
  • Provide general Risk &Control specific trainings to control operators
  • Point of contact for GDBS, markets and Group Functions, using the most suitable communication channel and escalation route
  • Design assessment and Effectiveness testing coordination and quality review
  • Timely and effective communication of the key messages/outcomes to all stakeholder levels and with relevant internal and external business partners.
  • Escalation of issues- Identify issues at early stage to local management if necessary, Ensure resolution is promptly achieved
  • Support management reporting and sign off procedures (ARC, RMC)
  • Ensure aligned and streamlined CARM methodology / communications structure / market reporting across GDBS, markets and Group Functions are embedded to achieve more timely and insightful controls & compliance information for stakeholders.
  • Support new migration pipeline into GDBS, markets and Group Functions from a controls & compliance perspective (Control mapping, assessment update, warranty testing, etc.).
  • Business Continuity Plan Management across GDBS level (BCP e-learning maintenance and follow up, BCP test organisation, documentation of crises event, BCP stakeholder management across the organisation).
  • Senior Accounting Officer legislation was introduced by HMRC in 2009 to make SAO of large companies liable to taxes and duties in the UK, responsible for ensuring and certifying that appropriate tax accounting arrangements have been established and maintained. SAO Specialist is responsible for supporting the SAO reporting cycle, the Group Tax with tax related control results for companies incorporated in the UK in order to issue proper SAO certification based on accurate SAO issue reporting.
  • Coordination of the tasks of Risk & Control specialist/analyst.
  • Support the GDBS compliance and ethics agenda to ensure exemplary behaviours and compliance across the business with global policies and guidelines.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
  • University/College degree in accountancy/finance/business
  • Excellent English knowledge
  • 10+ years audit (internal/external) and/or SOX experience which can be replaced by thorough shared service process understanding
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Exposure to some of the following areas could be an advantage:
