It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo’s business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks.
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the markets’ indirect tax processes (including Customs and Excise duty, green tax and other supplementary C&Ex returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.

Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the markets’ indirect tax processes (including Customs and Excise duty, green tax and other supplementary C&Ex returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.
The role will lead the implementation and ensure ongoing operation of the Global Indirect Tax processes, controls and automation tools under the new Tax Operating model for her/his team.
Job Dimensions
Scope of role covers coordinating the preparation and review of Customs and Excise(C&Ex) duty and connected returns. This requires interaction with the Indirect Tax senior and Analysist, a number of functions including both markets and central functions with a special focus on C&Ex COE, Supply, logistics and STC teams. The role will have a direct conversation with Tax business partners and Global Indirect Tax SME -s relevant for her/his area.
The areas of the business you will work with are:- Tax Business Partners and Tax Governance team, to coordinate within the team that standardised processes and controls are operated, and legislative changes are followed up regularly and embedded in training materials.- Global Indirect Tax SMEs compliance SMEs, tax business partners on indirect tax related projects, audits and risk management in order to support the business, ensure audits are dealt with effectively and process improvements are implemented- Market FCs and FDs to understand key items on Indirect Tax B/S and P/L, and ensure appropriate knowledge sharing between tax and the business- Global Tax and key stakeholders such as tax authorities/STP/STC to effectively manage the tax risks for your markets- CARM, GAR and External auditors to ensure tax controls and processes are understood and delivered to meet CARM satisfactory standard and SOX controls under the broader Tax Control Framework- 3P providing handling warehouse process or customs clearance on behalf of DiageoRole is part of Global Tax. Role has responsibility for leading the Indirect Tax compliance preparation for the markets under her/his responsibility including the execution of process improvements and managing the Indirect Tax compliance risk agenda for the relevant markets.Diageo indirect tax charge is £7bn globally. You will manage the part connected to your markets/region.Accountabilities
What you will be responsible for:
1. Managing a team and acting as a line manager for the team including end-to-end people management responsibilities for the direct reports assigned to you
2. Ensuring that Customs and Excise Duty returns and connected supplementary returns are prepared according to the global standard process and controls, local DTP-s, on time and utilising automation tools where applicable.3. Managing routine Customs and Excise duty and other indirect tax related audit enquiries and projects for your markets,4. Ensuring compliance with market specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes working closely with Global Indirect Tax SME and her/his team .5. Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring these are done on time and in an internal and external control compliant way. Coordinating the BS reconciliation preparation and review process.6. Actively managing and coordinating tax document retention for your markets, team7. Driving continuous process improvement through establishing a LEAN approach to drive effectiveness and efficiency - supporting process improvements and rollout of standardised processes and automation in the region.8. Coordinating and overseeing the new controls and KPI report implementation, monitoring the implemented KPI-s, supporting investigation of the root-cause or errors and working with end-to-end processes to improve KPIs9. Ensuring market queries are responded by her/his team in a timely manner10. Providing training and any other kinds of technical support to the whole team and to other departments. Form the capability building of her/his team.
Qualifications and Experience
The qualifications and experience you will bring:
- Ideally minimum 2 years’ experience in managing indirect tax teams- Ideally minimum 4-5 years’ relevant tax experience in SSC and/or FMCG/Big 4 advisory environment- Experience at an operational level with C&Ex, controls and risk management- Experience in working with Supply, logistics teams and excise warehouse operators- Experience with transitions and project management- Experience in working with C&Ex Tool and/or C&Ex in SAP- Experience in working with markets that have highly complex legislationSkills
The skills you will need:
- Strong process and tax technical understanding at an operational level in Customs& Excise duty and other indirect taxes- Experience with C&Ex automation/SAP is desirable- Flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitude.
