Airbus in India
Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. It has a strong portfolio in Defence and Space, Commercial and Helicopters. Airbus has a special relationship with India for more than five decades now. During this period, we have been a partner to the growth of India’s civil aviation sector and have also supported the modernisation of its armed forces. We have set-up design, engineering and research facilities in India to leverage the gifted engineering talent pool in the country, which accounts for 80% of our workforce. Today, we support more than 6,000 jobs in the country including 1,500 engineers. We have more than 300 Airbus aircraft flying in the Indian skies and more than 530 are on order. Over the next 10 years, on average, we will deliver one aircraft to India every week. Airbus’ first fully-owned flight and maintenance training centre in Asia is coming up in New Delhi.
In line with Indian government’s ‘Startup India’ initiative, in 2015, Airbus established a Bizlab in Bengaluru, its third after Toulouse and Hamburg. Recently, Airbus subsidiaries NAVBLUE and Aerial signed contracts with three Indian startups. With this, we now have six Indian startups that have contracts with Airbus subsidiaries, accelerated at Airbus Bizlab India.
Airbus has been buying in India through its suppliers. Our annual procurement from the country exceeds 550 million US$ from more than 45 suppliers. Our proposition is to develop a defence focused industrial ecosystem in the country with our partners at the heart of it. We are participating in several defence programmes including, the Avro replacement programme with our C295W military transport aircraft alongside Tata. We have also partnered with Mahindra Defence to manufacture military helicopters locally. We are targeting the Naval Utility Helicopter (NUH), the Naval Multi-Role Helicopter (NMRH) and the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Helicopter (RSH) acquisition programmes in India. We believe that ‘Make in India’ is a great opportunity for us to bring in our expertise of industrial collaborations worldwide and help develop a robust industry.
Airbus believes that contribution to the well-being of the communities in which it works in an ethical imperative. In India, we are working with local communities to create shared value in areas such as environmental protection, education and healthcare.
What we do
Airbus is an international pioneer in the aerospace industry. We are a leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to customers on a global scale. We aim for a better-connected, safer and more prosperous world.
We make it fly
A commercial aircraft manufacturer, with Space and Defence as well as Helicopters Divisions, Airbus is the largest aeronautics and space company in Europe and a worldwide leader.
Airbus has built on its strong European heritage to become truly international – with roughly 180 locations and 12,000 direct suppliers globally. The company has aircraft and helicopter final assembly lines across Asia, Europe and the Americas, and has achieved a more than sixfold order book increase since 2000.
Who we are
At Airbus, we believe that it’s not just what we make, but how we make it that counts. We are convinced that our customers, investors and the communities we are working with not only ask us to create products, jobs and shareholder returns, but to promote responsible, sustainable and inclusive business practices and act with integrity.
Principles in practice
We conduct our business ethically, based on Airbus values, and in compliance with all laws and regulations. Furthermore, we strive for a culture of integrity in our people, partners and suppliers. To this end, we have established a dedicated Ethics & Compliance programme and organisation, to ensure that ethical and compliant behaviour is deeply embedded throughout the company, supported by our Standards of Business Conduct – our Code of Conduct and Integrity Principles. We have an enhanced anti-corruption policy and have conducted more than 160,000 awareness trainings in the past three years alone.
What we stand for
Six core values lie at the heart of Airbus, and these help us define not just “what we do” but “how we do it”. They are our foundation and help our employees identify with our company. Nearly 55,000 Airbus employees participated in defining our values: We are one/teamwork, integrity, customer focus, reliability, respect and creativity.
An inclusive culture
More than 130 nationalities make up the Airbus workforce and over 20 languages are spoken in our company – reflecting the diversity of the world we live in and customers we serve. For example, Airbus activities notably promote gender balance, social equality, intergenerational collaboration, while ensuring an inclusive environment for everyone. Take a look at all our different faces here.
For example, the company supports the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and the UN Standards of Conduct for Business for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex people, and has developed the GEDC Airbus Diversity Award, which aims to highlight projects that have encouraged more young people of all profiles and backgrounds to study and succeed in engineering. Airbus also fosters engagement and a strong leadership culture.
At Airbus, it’s everyone’s responsibility to bring our inclusive culture to life, and an Employee Resource Group (ERG) called Balance for Business is supporting an even more diverse workplace.
At Airbus, Inclusion and Diversity is an ENERGISER for our Business. It is a vehicle to reach our business objectives: globalization, digitalization, customer & supplier relationship, innovation and technical excellence. Inclusion and Diversity are fundamental to our culture and core values.
Inclusion is a working environment where all employees are respected and valued for their distinctive characteristics and have the opportunity to participate in a high performing culture and contribute to the business objectives and strategy. Diversity at Airbus means more than just the visible factors that describe a person in terms of gender, age or race; it goes way beyond. Diversity encompasses both the visible and invisible, such as: background, personality, experience, competences, ethnicity, sexual orientation and many more unique characteristics that make us who we are.
