This entry is part of the Babyoye Blogathon for Mums

#1 During an Eclipse a pregnant woman should not use knife to cut vegetables or fruits else the child's lips will be cut when the child is born --- This advise was given to my younger sister when she was pregnant & I could not control my laughter when I heard this. I mean what is the connection between using the knife & getting the child's lips cut is really surprising for me still.

#2 During an Eclipse a pregnant woman should not use flowers or any sort of fragrance since this may attract bhoots or rather evil spirit --- I still don't understand why a woman should restrict herself from adorning herself on any of these situations. What if she has a mood swing during an eclipse & she wants to use flowers for beautifying herself !!! Scientifically it is proven that there are mood swings during pregnancy. We say we are living in 21st century but we follow things which would have practiced in 16th century !!!

#3 We should not eat judwa (twin) fruits/vegetables else a woman may have twin babies --  Till today I don't understand this concept. What is the

co-relation between eating judwa fruits/vegetables & having twins !!! According to science identical twins result when a single sperm fertilizes a single egg & the resulting cell then divides in two. The two bodies, soon to be babies, share the same genetics & look the same. So, where is the role of those twin fruits/veggies !!!

#4 If a pregnant woman drinks the milk of the cow who has given birth to a bull calf (means male calf), then she will have a son -- How can one assure of this & again another stupidity to believe !!! And why are we still behind having only sons, why not daughters? I'm blessed with a beautiful & darling daughter and I'm very happy with her. Infact, my husband was dying to have a girl child :)

#5 You should not eat dark vegetables like baingan, gulabjamun for sweets etc as it would make the baby that would have dark complexion -- The complexion of the child depends upon the genetic part of inheritance. It has got nothing to do with not eating few veggies or sweets !!! Rather I feel, one should relish all the fruits & vegetables during pregnancy.

I feel a lady should try to be happy during her pregnancy & should take proper care of her health by eating right (as suggested by doctors) and doing some walking for 30 mins everyday.
